Cooking Grass-Fed Meats
Because the animals are outside and roaming around, grass-fed meats tend to be leaner, as well as higher in Omega-3s (the “good” fats!). Because of this, cooking our meats may be slightly different than what you are used to! Here are some helpful tips:
- Cook SLOW no matter what. It is okay to sear a steak or chop quickly on both sides on high heat. Immediately turn down the heat and cook slowly. We cannot emphasize this enough!
- Rest the meat and/or add a marinade or sauce. Resting meat is very important. By resting the meat the juices will remain IN THE MEAT and not run out. You can also add moisture to the meat, by placing the COOKED steak or chop in a pan with a nice marinade. This will add moisture, POST-COOKING, and this can be done during the resting phase.
- If this sounds like it is ruining your grilling experience, re-think it. By cooking meat slowly and allowing for rest time, you CAN start the cooking process earlier than you are accustomed to, and pull those steaks or chops off before they are well done….since they need a REST before serving time!
